Construction work on the fisheries anchorage at Kapparathota has been launched under the President’s patronage. He also inspected several development activities in the Weligama area.
The President participated in the launch of work on the Kapparathota Fisheries Anchorage in Weligama this morning. Around 500 fisher families will benefit from the Anchorage. The allocation made by the Government for this work is 450 million rupees. After the launch of this work, the President viewed the handicraft Showroom and the Production Centre at the location. The President was joined by Ministers Rajitha Senaratne, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and Deputy Minister Hemal Gunasekara.
In the meantime, the President also inspected the construction of the Polgahawatte Bridge built across the Polwathumodera River along the Weligama-Akuressa Road. The Bridge is being constructed to improve the transport facilities of the people of the area. It is 120 metres long and 10 metres wide. 6000 million rupees will be spent on the Bridge which will have two lanes.
The President also seized the opportunity of inspecting this morning the construction work of the Weligama Chetty Street which is being expanded and reconstructed. The work is being launched under the Weligama Town Beautifications programme.
