Add comments

The President has asserted that the Opposition has been unable to put forward a proposal on a development project as the Government has properly fulfilled all activities in respect of development in the country.

He declared that they will continuously carry out this work despite obstacles it had to face and mentioned that it is the responsibility of the Opposition to work in cooperation with the Government.

The President was addressing a public meeting at Godagama after vesting the extension of the Southern Expressway from Pinnaduwa to Matara, in the public.

The President said that along with this Expressway, the value of Galle and Matara Districts has increased. The South has been selected to stage international sports competitions. Those who have visited the Airport and the Harbour in the South are aware of its operations. Nothing is left for other parties to include projects in their political agendas. The President said that the Government had built the country that these political parties have nothing to propose for development. When attempts were being made to reclaim the sea near the Galle Face Green and add hundreds of acres for the country, the opposition view these projects with hatred. These parties are totally bankrupt with proposals. They want to bring the development to a standstill. They are supporting proposals against the country and are awaiting to see what would happen to the country after the 28th. But it should be recalled as to what happened to the country because of their foreign policy. The President appealed for support to build the country and not to permit to sabotage the work

The cultural pageant which was held thereafter attracted those present. Thereafter addressing the gathering, Minister Dulles Alahapperuma said that today is a significant day which marked registers a landmark in the country’s history.

The Minister said that a road means not only the plying of vehicles. It is a process which changes the vision of the people. Sri Lanka had to wait for from 63 years from 1948 to 2011 to add the term expressways to its dictionary. If not for the President the country would had to wait for about 150 years to witness an expressway.

The President awarded prizes to winners in the art and essay competitions based on the expressway concept. A large gathering including China’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka Wu Jianghao and many Parliamentarians was present on the occasion.
