Terrorism which was a scourge for the country had blighted hundreds of thousands lives. Its destruction was inestimable.
This is another episode of that dark era which was engulfed with brutality due to the atrocities committed by the barbaric insurgents.
The tiger terrorists took away the lives of six war heroes in an attack in the Muttur area on 26th April 1985 and thus commenced their killing spree on 26th April throughout the dark period. From then onwards April 26th was a significant day in their murder list. The tiger terrorists also considered 26th April in 1987 as such a day. On this day the LTTE terrorists planted a landmine in the Kuchchaveli area and grabbed the lives of five war heroes.
In the year 1997 also on a day like today, the terrorists took away the lives of three war heroes in an assault in the Maradamunai area. The hideous attack was unleashed by the tiger terrorists on the war heroes in the Muttur area on April 26th 2006. Three war heroes sacrificed their lives on behalf of the country in this attack. On the same day the tiger terrorists took away the lives of three more war heroes in a heinous attack in the Kuchchaveli area.
The barbaric terrorists mooted a gruesome assault on the heroic soldiers in Janakapura North on 26th April 2008. Eight war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the noble freedom of the motherland in this assault.
Accordingly the terrorists had killed five civilians on April 26th during the period terrorism plagued the country. They had also killed 46 war heroes in this period. The number of lives grabbed by the terrorists on April 26th throughout the dark era was 51.
The brave soldiers commenced their advancement in the humanitarian operations making supreme sacrifices following the unflinching decisions taken by President Rajapaksa and the appropriate guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Members of the Security Forces succeeded in ending the insurgency in the midst of various dedications.
The people of the country will not permit anyone to destroy this freedom and the peace that is being enjoyed by the entire nation.
Certain organizations which are exerting various pressure under the cover of human rights are doing so to achieve the parochial aims of the Western powers. The patriotic citizens have already identified these groups.
It is a long time ago that they have decided as to how these groups should be treated. Elements which go against the motherland are aware of as to what their fate should be, if they attempt to destroy this freedom in the country.
The entire nation will not be reluctant to defeat various forces and conspiracies, safeguarding the leader as well as the country. It is purely because that the patriotic citizens who love the country are living within the island nation.
