Farmers in the Hanguranketha area have been successful in reaping a good paddy harvest from the Maha cultivation season.
Seven Agrarian Service Authority areas are operative within the Hanguranketha electorate. Paddy is usually cultivated only within one season in the Nuwara Eliya District.
Agrarian Services Assistant Director of Hanguranketha Rangana Chandrasiri said that farmers have been able to achieve a successful harvest following cultivations within the Hanguranketha area. The farmers had mostly used paddy strains introduced by the Ambalantota Paddy Research Institute and the Bathalagoda Paddy Research Institute. Cultivators have achieved a harvest of about 200 bushels of paddy from an acre.
