The people who suffered for thirty years as a result
of terrorism are aware of the nature of its ferocity and ruthlessness. The heroic soldiers succeeded in liberating the motherland from these barbaric terrorists. They have now brought enduring peace to the country. If not the terrorists would have taken away more lives.
The nation who loves the country will never permit for a recurrence of such an environment.
Tamil politician Sinnathambi Thilagar was shot dead by the LTTE terrorists on 04th June 1983. He faced this unfortunate incident while he was engaged in election campaigning. The tiger terrorists who stormed into the Andankulam village on 04th January 1986 attacked innocent civilians and took away 17 lives shocking the entire country.
On 04th June 1997, the tiger terrorists mooted an attack on the war heroes in the Uppuveli area in Trincomalee and killed two soldiers. The ruthless terrorists unleashed a heinous assault in Kilinochchi on 04th June 1998. As a result 109 heroic soldiers made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the motherland.
Two innocent civilians were killed in another attack mooted by the tiger terrorists in the Velanai area in Jaffna on 04th June 2006. Demented by the continuous defeats suffered, the blood thirsty terrorists also took away the lives of three more civilians in an assault in the Jaffna town on 04th June 2007.
Terrorism which was a scourge for the country was pulverized from the Nanthikadal Lagoon on 18th May 2009. By then these merciless tiger terrorists had taken away a total of 149 lives on 04 June throughout the dark period. This included 26 innocent civilians. The other 123 were members of the Security Forces who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the unity of the country.
Following the fearless and unwavering decisions taken by President Rajapaksa as the Commander in Chief and under the guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa., the heroic soldiers succeeded in advancing in the humanitarian operations.
Overcoming all the impediments, the brave soldiers achieved their victorious goal at the Nanthikadal Lagoon obliterating the terrorists due to their immense dedications.
Certain hostile forces are determined to destroy this peaceful environment. But the patriotic fraternity of the motherland will never permit such forces to raise their heads again.
The nation has proven this with clear evidence emphasizing that they remained with courage and strength with the Commander in Chief and the Government.
These dark memories are being refreshed in these episodes that the nation may act responsibly in a manner that ensures such destruction would not recur. Action has been taken to display the photographs of the war heroes who made supreme sacrifices in the battle to rout terrorism and discharge a noble service as an honour to the sacrifices they have made.
