18 crores as compensation for Dr. Samitha Samanmali!


Dr. Miss Samitha Samannmali who was made permanently incapacitated as a result of a trade exhibition stall at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall premises collapsing on her head was asked to be paid a sum of Rs. 180 million

as compensation. This order was given to the BMICH authorities with the case finally coming to an end today.



Since this mishap took place when she was engaged in pre-planning activities for a medical exhibition which was being held by the Medical College, Colombo on February 15, 2008, Dr. Samitha Samanmali had with the services of Attorney-at-Law Mr. G.G. Arulpragasam filed legal action in this connection claiming a sum of Rs. 500 million from the administration of the BMICH the latter of whom were in charge of the said premises.



When the case was called today, this decision was arrived at.



As a consequence of this accident she was permanently incapacitated and is still in a condition where she has been compelled to use the wheel-chair.
