All future Provincial Council and Local government elections on the same day:
Minister Karu Jayasuriya has added that the tradition of having Local government and Provincial council
elections from time to time burdens the government with very heavy expenditure. In order to prevent this occurring in future it has been decided to have all local government and provincial council elections on the same day.This was disclosed by the Minister Karu Jayasuriya when speaking at a ceremony in welcoming him to the ministry. He also added that the new elections would be held in the new system and not in the preferential votes system but from separate divisions. These new divisions with separate individuals to be contesting would be notified later.
