Provision to cast one’s vote at an alternate polling booth arranged
It is reported that if a voter for some reason or other develops a fear to go to his or her
stipulated polling booth to cast his or her vote that a provision has been included in the election act pertaining for him or her vote at an alternate polling booth of his or her wish. In this regard he or she will have to make an application in this regard.In this regard to the parliamentary elections act No 127 amendment of the elections Act 1981 No 1 and of Act 1988 No 15 has provided provision for any person who needs her or his stipulated polling booth to be changed according to his or her wish.
The application forms for requesting for this facility could be from the returning officer’s office in the area, divisional secretariat and the Grama Niladhari offices.
These applications forms need to be filled by those seeking this facility and handed over to the office of the election secretariat within seven days from the 26th June 2015 addressed to the Commissioner of elections, elections Secretariat; Sarana Mawatha Rajagiriya.This cut off date has been extended up to the 10th of July for the convenience of the voters. These applications have to be sent or handed over before this date.
All applications have to be certified by the Grama Niladhari of the area the constituent belongs to and the person’s identity card number has to be indicated and certified. Those applications sent without these conditions would be rejected.
