Police investigations being carried on currently is in the process of revealing what reasons contributed towards the murder of underworld leader Samayan who was killed in Kalutara day-before-yesterday even while he was in jail for a period of time. In the month of September in 2015 Ranale Samayan was being brought to be produced before Kaduwela Courts when an unidentified gunman had hidden a 9 mm. pistol with his hand covered by a bandage strip had shot Samayan in front of courts fleeing thereafter scaring everybody in the vicinity and that was the initial attempt on Samayan's life. Samayan who sustained serious injuries in that attack which occured around 9.30 in the morning was admitted to hospital and even had to undergo an operation; however he later came back to normal. At the time of the incident the suspect had escaped the attention of prison officers and the police and had made his escape by jumping over the wall surrounding courts. He was however cornered 2 days later as a result of cctv camera footage being released to the media. This crime was in fact committed by a subordinate acting on instructions of a gang leader known as Kamburupitiye Harsha. Kamburupitiye Harsha happened to be a gang leader and was the main subordinate of Makandure Dhanushka who incidentally virtually shook the South. Mr. Danny Hiththetiya who was the chairman of the Southern Authority some years before this was murdered in broad daylight with the involvement and operations carried out by both Makandure Dhanushka and Kamburupitiye Harsha.

A friendship later had developed between Samayan and Kamburupitiye Harsha sometime back when inside prison. But about an year and a half ago this friendship which broke up between the two had ended up with both parties becoming deadly enemies. After Harsha came out being released from prison, Samayan had been making plans to carry out a 'game' and the said shooting had been done as the outcome of a revenge on him. Whatever it is, a short period after this incident Kamburupitiye Harsha was killed inside a house down Arunodaya Mawatha in Obeysekerapura. While he had been having his lunch at his paramour's house, 2 youth who had come on a motor cycle had fled after shooting down Harsha. News spread that Samayan and his accomplices who were behind bars were behind this crime and that was how fate sealed his death ultimately a few days back.

After the death of Kamburupitiye Harsha who incidentally had spread terror as an unidentified gunman across many an area in the South, Kelum had taken up activities of the underworld in the South. According to the philosophy of "blood to blood ... tooth to tooth ... eye for eye" dictum, members of Harsha's gang who were agitated over their colleague's demise thus had made it a point to mete out their revenge on Samayan in this manner. As a consequence of what happened was that an innocent pregnant woman was shot down dead thinking mistakenly that she was Samayan's wife.

Withanage Sanjeewani a 23 year old woman pregnant with a 2 month old baby who had been walking on the main road opposite prisons down Baseline Road in Borella with a sister of hers on March 5th 2015 happened to be the unfortunate victim in this instance. The victim had been returning home after visiting a relative of hers who had been behind bars at which time the 2 youth clad in helmets had stopped their motor bike blocking her and questioned her asking "aren't you Samayan's wife?" and even before she had time to respond, she was shot down by a 9 mm. pistol. Subsequently she was hospitalised; but the police came to know that the true incident was something else only after the 2 suspects were accosted. The objective of the murder was that the assailants had got the news that Samayan's wife (second wife whom he married in 2014) was bringing him meals to prison and was to be gunned down as a matter of revenge.

The underworld gangsters who killed this pregnant woman had gone straight to where Harsha's body was lying and one of these underworld gangsters who proceeded towards Harsha's dead body had bowed down before him and and had whispered the words "there you are boss ... we carried your wish!" to his ear. But they had come to know that the woman they shot down was someone else only across a television channel broadcast that very night.

The gang, it is learned had at Harsha's funeral house sworn to each other (Makandure Dhanusha who was Harsha's boss, Angoda Lokka and Athurugiriye Baldi Priyantha) once again to take revenge on Samayan. Dematagoda Chaminda who presently is imprisoned for Bharatha's murder was a member of their gang who in fact maintained cordial relations with them, it was reported. From among them Angoda Lokka was focused attention upon in particular by the police because he and his accomplices had been making plans 6 months before this to carry out an attack on the prison bus targetting Samayan, which was finally revealed. The operations carried out day-before-yesterday was reported as having been carried out with fake police uniforms on. Angoda Lokka's previous plan however was to launch this attack dressed in Army uniforms. 6 months prior to this one Pethiyagoda Sankha, a member belonging to Angoda Lokka's gang when taken into custody of the police was interrogated and thereby the Army uniforms including other equipment relevant to this undertaking were found by Mirihana Special Operations Unit. News has been received that this plan was reversed subsequently and the attack was directed after being dressed in police uniform. When Pethiyagoda Sankha was being questioned after his arrest, a micro-pistol, 6 sets of Army uniforms were found hidden in a marsh of a cement-block workshop. What he had said there was about a plan to launch the planned attack on the rival party by going in a bus. According to information now streaming into police there is a possibility that several Army deserters had comprised Makandure Dhanusha's gang as well as Angoda Lokka's gang. What they only wanted was to take their revenge on Samayan. It was in this manner that Samayan was identified and separated from the rest of the others and was shot at after placing him on the footboard of the prison bus as a specific victim of theirs.

Other accomplices of Samayan too were on the murder-list. Whatever it is, 2 officers of prisons had to pay the price with their lives because of this unfortunate incident. Another prison officer who is warded at Colombo Hospital has been subjected to an amputation, it has been reported.
