Distinguished film director Vasantha Obeysekera passes away
Well-known film director and Kala Keerthi Mr. Vasantha Obeysekera passed away at a private hospital in Colombo today (8). He was 80 years old at the time of his death.
After graduating from university in 1962 he served as a newspaper editor at Lake House during the period 1964-1970. Later he embarked on the cinema in 1967 with the film
Sath Samudura. In fact he was the co-director of that film. He was an adept at both script-writing and directing films. He created several productions such as Vesgattho, Walmathwuwo, Diamanthi, Palangetiyo, Dadayama, Kedapathaka Chaya, Maruthaya, Dorakada Marawa, Thirtha Yathra, Salelu Warama, Agni Varsha, Aganthukayo and Sewwandi. Most of these creations have earned him awards.
