Renovations were carried out for about a period for the last 3 months with one half of the day being closed for this purpose at Katunayaka Bandaranaike International Airport and renovation activities at the auspicious time of 12.30 concluded this afternoon; thus 24 hour services at the airport was once again
in motion.

The runway was extended from 65 metres to 75 while the width was expanded from 3300 metres to 3550 metres. Even a large aeroplane of A 380 dimensions could easily made to land now, it is reported. From today onwards usual duties of the airport will be resumed as usual and advice issued to passengers to arrive 5 hours in advance would no longer be necessary and the usual period of 3 hours for this purpose is deemed sufficient, it was announced. Likewise, the time-table has been planned once again to initiate flights that were kept stopped during daytime to take flight once more.
