A wild elephant has died after being knocked down by a train plying from Colombo to Baticaloa. The elephant had gone in search of food from the Somawathie National Wild Life Park. The accident has occurred around 3.45 am today. Four wild elephants had died earlier on the same spot, after being hit by trains.
