Four persons who killed a Police Officer after hurling a hand grenade at a group of Policemen have been sentenced to death.
The hand grenade attack was launched when the Police Officers attempted to nab the fleeing suspects in June 2002.
The Moneragala High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunge sentenced the convicts to death. Among the four convicts are two brothers of the same family. Police Officer S.M. Jayasiri died in the hand grenade attack, while Inspector R.M. Priyantha Ratnayake lost a limb. State Counsel Vishwa Wijesuriya appeared on behalf of the Plaint.
