No party differences for national security

There are no party differences to national security. Everyone should join hands on behalf of the country. The Parliamentarians were speaking during the Committee Stage discussions of the budget.


Minister Dinesh Gunawardena queried from Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera as to who took Channel four journalists to Sirikotha. He also queried as to what these journalist did there. He said that no one can topple the Government through conspiracies. The Minister said that Mangala Samaraweera would have been chased away by Ranil Wickremasinghe long before if what he said was believed.


Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake said that the highest allocation in the budget has been made to these Votes. It should be considered whether the desires are met after these allocations were made


Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that the future should be planned from the lessons learnt in the past. He said those who vote and do not are lauding the Defence Secretary for the development that has taken place in Colombo. He commended the Urban Development Ministry for the major transformation that has taken place in Colombo.


Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa said that a budget of any country mainly focuses attention on national security. If so he told the House that there may be political differences. He mentioned that it was his view that everyone should united for national security.


The Votes on the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development and the Ministry of Law and Order are adopted with a majority of votes in Parliament. The vote was taken up after the Committee Stage discussion.


126 votes were cast in favour while nine members voted against it. Accordingly the Votes of the two Ministries were passed with a majority of 117 votes with amendments during the Committee Stage discussion.
