Early results show a new test for bowel cancer may be far more effective than those currently used in screening programmes. A large trial of the new combined blood and stool test will get underway next year.
According to records from Britain’s publicly funded National Health Service only 50% of people are willing to undergo an available test which detects blood in stool samples. Those tests only identify cancer in 43% of cases.
VolitionRx, the company which is developing the new test claims it’s able to push the detection rate up to 85%. The test combines the current stool examination with a blood test.
