The public can now pay their taxes to Local Councils online with effect from today.
The programme which commenced from the Colombo Municipal Council today will be extended to cover all other Local Bodies.
Hitherto the public visited the Local Councils including the Colombo Municipal Council to pay their annual taxes. They experienced many hardships in doing so as they had to stand in long queues. As a solution to this issue, the Colombo Municipal today introduced a programme to urban dwellers to pay their annual taxes online from their homes. The public can visit the website www.cmc.lk and make their tax payments and also inquire into their balances.
The new service commenced today under the patronage of Minister A.L.M. Athaullah. Among those present on the occasion was Colombo Mayor A.J.M. Muzammil.
The Minister said that initially they planned to introduce this service to all Municipal Councils as these Councils have assessment taxes and other revenues. He assured that his Ministry is geared to extend whatever support was needed.
The public who make their payments online can also make payments via mobile phones and credit cards.
The Sri Lanka Information and Communication Technology Agency made a vital contribution in discharging this task. It is planned to introduce this online payment system also to other local bodies as soon as possible.
