Add comments

The sole aim of the blood thirsty tiger terrorists was to destroy the entire country and transform it into a land of the dead.

It is doubtful whether such terrorism was or prevails in any part of the world. It is because as it cruelty was so dreadful. This episode deals with the brutality unleashed by the terrorists on 24th December throughout the dark era.

The tiger terrorists taking away the life of a war hero at Vettilaikerni on 02nd January 1997, commenced their killing spree on 02nd January throughout the dark era. On the same day, three innocent civilians died in a claymore mine planted by the terrorists. The incident happened in the Thirunaveli area.

Two years later that was in 1999, on a day like today, the terrorists who killed a brave soldier providing security to the country in the Sathurukandan area, also on 02nd January in the year 2000, opened fire at two war heroes in Kalawanchikudi area. Both of them were killed on the spot. On the same day the tiger terrorists brutally murdered two innocent civilians in Jaffna and Kalawanchikudi. Also on the same day the country was deprived of the valuable services of a gallant soldier following a bomb which exploded in the Nilaveli area.

In a claymore mine explosion in Kompannaveediya in Colombo on January 2nd 2008, two war heroes and three innocent civilians were killed, thus clearly indicating that terrorism was not limited only to the North and the East.

In the year 2009 on a day like today that is the 2nd of January, the terrorists killed two brave soldiers at Muhamalai and Nedunkerni. Also on the same day the terrorists continued to display their brutality by killing three war heroes in Kilinochchi. On this day, the tiger terrorists attacked a group of war heroes at Paranthan with bombs and gunfire taking away the lives of four soldiers.

On January 02nd in the year 2009, the lives of four war heroes were taken away by the terrorists in a suicide attack at Kompannaveediya.

Accordingly from 1997 to the year 2009, the number of lives taken away by the brutal terrorists on 02nd January throughout the dark period was 34. Among them were eight innocent civilians while the other 26 were gallant soldiers. If terrorism was not ended by the war heroes under the bold leadership of President Rajapaksa who is the Commander Chief and the prudent guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the terrorists would have taken away an unknown number of lives and transformed the country into a land of the dead.

The war heroes under the leadership of the President succeeded in routing a terrorist outfit which had been claimed could not be defeated and taught a good lesson to the world. Local as well as extraneous forces which support terrorism may have been hurt by this lesson. As such they are determined to return the country to that dark era.

Britain and the United States alleging that human rights have been transgressed are seeking reports from Sri Lanka. However, it has now surfaced and it is not a secret to the world that these two world powers have breached human rights by interfering not only into matters of Sri Lanka but also of other nations. The Lankan war heroes fulfilled a humanitarian operation and re-enforced the human rights that were violated by the terrorists not only in the North and the East but also in the South. These episodes clearly depict the brutality unleashed by the terrorists and which cannot be forgotten.
