The number of lives taken away by the remorseless terrorists throughout three decades is inestimable. The crimes committed by the tiger terrorists are being reminisced in these episodes.
On 07th January 1989, the brutal terrorists unleashed an attack on a group of war heroes in the Welioya areas with the intention of disturbing civilian movement. As a result of this attack the nation lost three brave soldiers. The terrorists thus commenced their killing spree on 07th January in this manner during the dark era.
Again on 07th January 1996, the tiger cadres unleashed another attack on the war heroes in the Trincomalee area. Two war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the country. On 07th January 1997 the brutal terrorist covertly entered the Mavil Aru area with the intention of mooting a massive attack. Their target was a group of brave soldiers moving via this area. Six war heroes were killed in this incident.
In the year 1998, on a day like today, the terrorists launched a mortar attack at a bunker manned by the members of the security forces in the Meesalai area. The country lost the most valuable services of two brave soldiers in this attack.
On 07th January 2006, the target of the remorseless terrorists was a fleet of vehicles in which war heroes were travelling in Trincomalee. 13 members of the forces were killed in a landmine planted by them. In the year 2009, also on January 07th the terrorists launched several attacks targeting the Elephant Pass and Iranamadu areas. The country lost four war heroes in these attacks.
Terrorism which scourged the country in this manner was brought to a halt on 18th May 2009 in the Nanthikadal Lagoon. By then the brutal tiger terrorists had taken away the lives of 42 war heroes. The soldiers who advanced due to the direct policy decisions taken by President Rajapaksa and under the guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhya Rajapaksa enthroned permanent peace in the country.
The war heroes brought peace to the country in this manner making supreme sacrifices. They did so to on behalf of the posterity. As a result all communities are leading better lives in a peaceful and calm environment. However, certain local as well extraneous forces which are against the country are attempting to destroy this peaceful climate. But the patriotic fraternity is clearly aware of their nature and tactics. As such the nation is aware how to respond to these forces. It is pathetic to note that these local and foreign forces do not have a knowledge as to the fate that will befall them.
