General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and Minister Maithripala Sirisena has underscored that the United People’s Freedom Alliance will secure a two thirds majority at the polls to be held for the Western and Southern Provincial Councils in the near future. The Minister laid this emphasis at a function held in Galle.
The ceremony was organized in view of the opening of the new Regional Health Services Director’s Office in Galle. The expenditure incurred by the Government to build a new office to replace the Office that was devastated during the tsunami, was 110 million rupees. In addition to housing the Health Services Director’s Office, a Health Training Centre has also been set up in the two storeyed building.
Further expressing his views on the occasion, Minister Sirisena said that it is the present administration under the leadership of the President has established Provincial Councils within the nine Provinces of the country.
The Minister said that polls are forthcoming for the Western and Southern Provincial Councils. The Government secured a landslide victory in the Provincial polls held last year. The Minister said that they achieved a two thirds majority in the polls held for the Northwestern and Central Provincial Councils. He was optimistic that the Government would obtain a two thirds majority victory in the Western and Southern Provincial Council polls based on the trust placed in the Government following the development work mooted by the Government with the leadership given by the President.
Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody and Parliamentarian Ramesh Pathirana were among the other speakers at this function.
