Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana has said that the Police always act independently meting out justice to all. He said that the Police have proved this with respect to actions initiated against accusations made against politicians, Police Officers and high Government Officials.

Expressing views to ITN, the Police Media Spokesman said that action had been taken against Police Officers immaterial of their positions when they had committed offences. In the year 2013, a Deputy Inspector General was apprehended due to an alleged offence. The OIC’s of Talangama and Wellampitiya were taken into custody and remanded. Transfers had been given to several OIC’s while some had even been interdicted. Actions had been initiated in a transparent manner on every occasion.

On the other hand SSP Ajith Rohana noted that punishment had been meted out to those who had committed an offence irrespective of their positions. Provincial Councillors and a Provincial Council Minister were apprehended after the conduct of inquiries. Instructions have been received from the hierarchy to arrest those who commit offences and to carry out raids on narcotics.

As such, the Police Media Spokesman added that it had been possible to recently arrest a number of persons serving in the Police.
