De-mined lands in Kilinochchi returned to civilian owners

Security is being further consolidated on lands of civilians in Kilinochchi which were forcibly acquired by the terrorists during the conflict period by removing landmines after being taken over by the military.

24 land allotments in which security has been consolidated have been returned to the owners.


The terrorists had forcibly acquired lands of civilians during the conflict period. The terrorists utilized these lands to put up their camps and for other activities. The lands were brought under the control of the military during the humanitarian operations in the Wanni. The war heroes made an untiring dedication to consolidate the security of these lands by removing landmines and booby traps planted by the terrorists.

The handing over of such land to the owners took place on different occasions. 24 allotments of such land have been entrusted to the owners under the auspices of Kilinochchi Commanding Chief Major General Udaya Perera. The Kilinochchi District Secretariat pointed out that more such allotments are to be handed over to the owners within the next few days. A group including District Secretary Rupavathie Ketheeswaran and Provincial Councillor V. Thavanathan was among those present at the handing over of the land to the owners.
