The Customs have apprehended a suspect with gold valued at 22 million rupees.
A Sri Lankan passenger who attempted to smuggle out 3 gold pieces to Chennai was nabbed at the Katunayake International Airport this morning. Customs Media Spokesperson Leslie Gamini said that the suspect is a 33 year old resident of Bambalapitiya.
He was arrested for concealing 3 pieces of gold strips weighing 4.5 kg. Information has come to light that the suspect had traveled between Colombo and Chennai on several occasions. Further investigations are proceeding under the guidance of Customs Director Vipula Senanayake.
