The Northern sea area and the sea area in the Mannar Basin are still rough.
The Department of Meteorology has warned Northerners to be more cautious of the dangerous situation that the rough seas may be experienced in the coastal belt.
Director General of the Department of Meteorology Lalith Chandrapala said that the deep depression which was persisting in the East had weakened to some extent but still remains at the same location. They expect that within the next 18 to 24 hours it will move towards the West and move out of the island from the Mannar sea belt.
As a result of this depression they expect strong winds at the rate of 70 to 75 kilometres per hour from Trincomalee via Kankesnthurai to the Mannar sea belt. He warned fishermen to refrain from fishing in this area.
