The depression to the east of northeastern coast of Sri Lanka is expected to move over northern Sri Lanka by this evening. Therefore the Met department requests people to remain vigilant about the weather pattern.
She said that under the influence of the system very strong winds, about 100 kilometers per hour and heavy falls are expected over Northern Province and over Northern sea areas and over Gulf of Mannar. She added there would be frequent showers in the Northern province and over sea area off the coast extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanturai. The seas off the coast extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanturai will be very rough and dangerous. She requested the public living close to the said coastal areas also should be more vigilant as the sea waves can be high as 3 meters. Fairly strong North-easterly winds are expected to continue over other areas of the island too.
Meanwhile the Disaster Management says that it has taken all measures to minimize damage caused by the depression. He said that all Disaster Management centers have been informed about the situation. He added that 3 Armed Forces, Police and District Secretaries are giving their support. However he said that no disaster situation has been reported so far and the Disaster Management is on alert through out the day.
