The President holds discussions with the King of Jordan.

President Mahinda Rajapakse who is on an official tour of Middle East, has begun discussions with the King of Jordan. The President’s official Palestine tour will begin tomorrow.

President Rajapakse, beginning his Middle East tour, left the island yesterday from Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport. The President is scheduled to tour Jordan, Palestine and Israel. A special attention is expected to be paid on the welfare of about 83 thousand Sri Lankans who are working in Jordan, during the bilateral discussions. Presidents Media Coordinating secretary Vijayananda Herath said that President Rajapakse would leave for two day official tour of Palestine tomorrow. The President will hold bilateral talks with Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas. He will also lay floral tributes at the memorial of late President Yassar Arafat. The President will meet members of the Sri Lanka-Palestine solidarity association for discussions. Following the visit to Bethlehem, he will arrive in Israel for a two day tour. During the tour the President is expected to hold discussions with President Simone Perez and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The President is accompanied by First lady Shiranthi Rajapakse, Minister Prof. G. L. Peris, External Affairs Ministry’s monitoring MP Sajin Vas Gunawardena, UNP MP John Amarathunge, Parliamentarians Roshan Ranasinghe and Kamala Ranathunge.
