The President says that despite accusations people can walk freely from Dondra Head to Point Pedro

People are very happy to walk from Dondra Head to Point Pedro freely despite utterances made by various people living abroad. President Mahinda Rajapaksa mentioned this while declare opening Sri Lanka’s second Cancer Hospital in the North.

The President declared open Trail Cancer Hospital in Thelippalei-Jaffna this morning. The hospital is equipped with state of the art equipment including special treatment units, operation theaters, outpatient department, consultancy services and laboratories. The Government has spent three hundred million rupees to build the hospital. The donations made by people and sponsors for the trail trust which organized the walk from Dondra Head to Point Pedro, were used for the hospital. President Rajapaksa admitted the first patient to the hospital. While inspecting the hospital President said that he wanted all communities to live happily and freely in the country.

The President said that he was happy to create an environment where one can walk from Dondra Head to Point Pedro with the support of everyone following three decades of war and achieving peace and happiness. He pointed out that Sri Lankans are happy about the present peaceful environment in the country despite the utterances made by people living abroad. He said that everyone in the country should live happily. The President recalled that there were many camps in the area but now it has been reduced and only twelve thousand troops remain. He further said that no race can subjugate another race.

The second phase of the constructions of the hospital was also launched. Minister Maithripala Sirisena and Northern Province Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the second phase. The President presented awards for 12 people who took part in the walk to collect funds for the hospital. The Maha Sangha, other religious leaders Minister Douglus Devananda, Deputy Ministers Vinayagamurthi Muralidaran, Lalith Dissanayake, Northern Province Governor G.A. Chandrasiri, Parliamentarians of UNP and TNA were present on the occasion.



President Mahinda Rajapaksa paid homage to Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura last evening. The President called over and had a short discussion with Chief Incumbent of Atamasthanaya Venerable Pallegama Siri Nivasa Thero. Thereafter he took part in religious observances at Ruwanweli Maha Saya and visited Chief Incumbent of Ruwanweli Maha Seya Venerable Pallegama Hemarathana Thero. President Rajapaksa met Chief Incumbent of Isurumuni Temple Venerable Mathawa Sangha Rakhitha Thero at Isurumini Rajamaha Vihara. A group of people including Minister Tissa Karaliyedda and North Central Governor karunaratna Divulgane accompanied the President.
