Dark memories of 25th February

Add comments

The country which suffered severe setbacks as a result of terrorism that was fast spreading like a pestilence was routed from the Nanthikadal Lagoon enthroning peace by the Commander in Chief and the brave soldiers. The terrorists plagued the country for 30 years.

The gruesome killings committed by these barbaric terrorists are being reminisced in this feature.

On 25th February 1986, the tiger terrorists who took away the life of a war hero in the Mannar area embarked on their killing spree on 25th February during the dark era with the desire of taking more lives on this particular day. Again on 25th February 1997, the ruthless tiger terrorists in ambush launched a brutal assault of a group of war heroes on foot patrol in the Trincomalee area and killed two brave soldiers.

These barbaric tiger terrorists launched a brutal attack on a group of civilians who were engaged in their day to day activities at Ambalanthurai on 25th February 1999. As a result five innocent civilians were killed shocking the entire area.

The next target of the terrorists on 25th February in the year 2009 was Paalamattan, Puthukudiyiruppu and Puthukudiyiruppu West areas. 12 war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the country in these attacks.

Terrorism which was a scourge for the country was annihilated on 18th May 2009. By then these cruel terrorists had taken away 32 lives on 25th February throughout the fear psychosis period. This included five civilians. The other 27 were members of the Security Forces. The valiant soldiers who advanced in the operations following the bold direct decisions taken by President Rajapaksa undeterred in the face of international pressure, succeeded in subduing terrorism and enthroning peace in the country. These achievements by the Security Forces were a severe attack to certain local as well as foreign forces as it obstructed their path of achieving their parochial aspirations.

The Sri Lankan war heroes carried out all these operations heeding the Geneva Conventions and in conformity to war regulations while doing their utmost to safeguard human rights. The brave soldiers also succeeded in liberating more than 300 thousand innocent Tamil civilians who were languishing under the jackboot of the terrorists, providing a new lesson to the world on human rights.

It is explicitly clear that the United States and Britain are directly making human rights allegations against Sri Lanka which had discharged such a task mainly because of their hypocrisy and not because of any other reason. The people of this country are with the leader of this country whatever actions were initiated by local abd foreign forces.

The so-called forces should at least now understand that they will get no room to cause any harm or damage to the motherland, the state leader or the war heroes whatever attempts were made by them.
