India draws attention to gold smuggling racket via Sri Lankan waters

Details have surfaced on a racket of smuggling gold to India via the Sri Lankan sea belt.


Information on this racket surfaced during an interrogation of two suspects arrested at the Pamban Railway Station at Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. The Indian Police took into custody 108 gold biscuits weighing 35 kilograms from the possession of these suspects. Its value exceeds over 300 million Lankan rupees. Tamil Nadu Additional Police Commissioner Shailendra Babu said that they had already taken action to beef up security in the Ramanathapuram, Tuticorin and Nagapattinam coastal belts with the revelation of information on the smuggling of these gold biscuits produced in Dubai to India via Sri Lanka.


The Tamil Nadu Additional Police Commissioner said that according to information received by them, a Sri Lankan has given these gold biscuits to Indian fishermen at Danushkodi. They had already received information that this gold biscuits produced in Dubai were being smuggled into India via the Sri Lankan waters.


Shailendra Babu said that they had apprehended two suspects and operations are in progress for the arrest of the other suspects. He emphasized that they would do their best to halt this racket beefing up security in the coastal belt.
