The increasing availability and decreasing cost of 3D printing technology has led to an explosion of creativity among designers from big businesses to small tech start-ups. Futurists predict that soon 3D printers will be in every home, but if we can print anything ourselves how do big brands protect their treasured designs? It’s here and now it’s going mainstream. 3D printing is now allowing enthusiasts to take advantage of inexpensive machines and a wealth of 3D files to print what they want, when they want. Here at a recent 3D print show in London, the US-based film special effects studio Legacy Effects displayed their 3D printed designs which eventually made it onto the silver screen.
