Add comments

It was unlimited dedications and self-sacrifices that the war heroes along with the Commander in Chief initiated action to eradicate terrorism from the motherland and create a peaceful environment for all communities to live in unity.

Blood would have continued to flow within the country if terrorism that was a mortal threat to the country and was fast spreading like a pestilence, was not vanquished.

The tiger terrorists commenced their killings on 14th March throughout the dark era taking away the lives of two war heroes exploding a powerful bomb at Paalam-Patar in Trincomalee. It was in the year 1986. In 1987 also on March 14th, the terrorists in a small weapons attack killed two more war heroes in the Kumburupiti Aalam-keni area.

These ruthless terrorists stormed into the Galmitiyawa village on 14th March 1998 and brutally slaughtered 13 innocent unarmed civilians. On the same day they unleashed a ruthless attack on the Peniketiyawa village and murdered 28 innocent civilians insulting humanity. The terrorists lurking in the Kalawanchikudi area killed two more war heroes on 14th March 1992.

On 14th March 1994, the terrorists took away two more lives of brave soldiers who were providing security to the civilians in Mannar. The merciless terrorists unleashed two major assaults in the Vavuniya and Manthai areas targeting a group of brave soldiers. As a result 17 war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the unity of the motherland.

In the year 2008 also on a day like today, six war heroes were killed following several attacks mooted by the tiger terrorists in the Mahamalai and Kokkuthuduwai areas. Again on 14th March 2009, these barbaric tiger terrorists launched several attacks in the Puthukudiyiruppu area. Another nine war heroes sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland.

Terrorism which was a scourge for the country was annihilated on 18th May 2009. By then these cruel terrorists had killed 88 persons on 14 March throughout the fear psychosis period. This included 45 civilians. The other 43 were valiant soldiers.

The heroic soldiers who advanced in the humanitarian operations succeeded in pulverizing terrorism due to the initiatives taken by President Rajapaksa with the prime aspiration of uprooting terrorism from the country. Such a heroic achievement by the brave soldiers was a severe blow to certain local as well as foreign forces as their intentions of achieving parochial aims were totally obstructed. The war heroes achieved these victories heeding the Geneva Conventions, safeguarding fundamental rights and adhering to international war regulations.

The valiant soldiers succeeded in providing a new lesson on human rights to the world by liberating more than 300 thousand innocent civilians who were languishing under the jackboot of the murderous tiger leader. It is explicitly clear that Britain and the United States are attempting to accuse a country which has performed such a noble act, levelling human rights violations because of their deceitfulness. The people of this country are geared to face any situation despite the initiatives taken by certain local as well as extraneous forces.

As such the so-called forces should at least now understand that they would not get any opportunity to hinder the state leader or the war heroes. Those who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the unity of the country are countless.
