President Rajapaksa pays obeisance to the Sacred Relics that are to be deposited at the Mahaweli Maha Seya.
The President paid homage to the Sacred Relics that are to be deposited at the Kadadora Mahaweli Maha Seya in Kotmale which was launched by former Minister the Late Gamini Dissanayake and there built under the aegis of the Government. These proceedings took place at Temple Trees. Later the President handed over the Relics Casket to Minister Naveen Dissanayake.
The deposit of the Sacred Relics at the Mahaweli Maha Seya will take place under the patronage of the members of the Maha Sangha of the three Nikayas on the 17th of this month. Construction of the Mahaweli Maha Seya commenced in the year 1983, in view of the Vihares destroyed with the launch of the Mahaweli Project. However, the construction work came to a standstill following the demise of Gamini Dissanayake in the year 1994.
Later the construction work resumed with Minister Naveen Dissanayake becoming the Chairman of the Mahaweli Cultural Trust and the full blessings of President Rajapaksa.
