The Government has spent 110.5 million rupees to renovate Samagipura apartment complex in Grandpass. The apartment complex which consisted of 244 houses, has been built in 1974. It was completely renovated under “Nagamu-purawara” programme of the Housing and Common Amenities Ministry with the assistance of Housing Development Authority and Sri Lanka State Engineering Corporation. Minister Wimal Weerawansa expressed his views on the occasion. Minister Wimal Weerawansa said that Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people had to be rescued from their present predicament. A beautiful urban environment has to be created. He said that new housing complexes were being built under the leadership of the President. Twenty thousand houses would be given to those who are living in unplanned houses by the year 2015. He pointed out that the present government led by the President was doing an enormous amount of work for the people in Colombo Municipal Council areas. A group of people including Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzi were present on the occasion.
