External parties have joined the protest in Hanwella Thunnane without the knowledge of the villagers. The Buddhist Priests and villagers say that those who complained to the Human Rights Commission are not residence of Thunnane. Two suspects connected to the killing of Police O.I.C during the Thunnane incident have been arrested. A discussion was held at Thunnane Siri Sumanajothi Temple about the protest which was held in connection with an alleged water contamination due to a rubber factory in Thunnane Hanwella. Venerable Pothdehikande Sudantha Thera and villagers, Minister Vijith Wijayamuni Soysa and Deputy Minister Faizer Mustafa took part in the discussion. Venerable Sudantha said that the majority of the protesters were not residents of Thunnane village. Venerable Sudantha said that an unexpected tragedy occurred on that day. He said that they came to know of news that Ramesh and Dian Rupasinghe who had no links with the village or who do not live in the village, have logged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission. He said that he wanted to say it clearly and responsibly that the villagers have no connection with that incident. Meanwhile Police Media Spokesman said that two suspects were taken into custody for the murder of Borella Police O.I.C. Prasanna Siriwardena by felling a tree on him. Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that two main suspects were taken into custody yesterday. He said that one was arrested in Trincomalee and the other one in Ratnapura, Weligedara. He added that investigations are continuing to arrest the others. Forty statements have been recorded and one more main suspect has to be arrested. He said that if they were hiding, legal action would be taken according to the Bail Act.
