Vice Chancellor Colombo University requests the assistance of the parents to protect undergraduates from conspirators.
The Vice Chancellor of the Colombo University has requested the parents to assist in protecting undergraduates from bankrupt politicians who try to disrupt their education by dragging them to the roads. Vice Chancellor Professor Kumara Hirimburegama made this request during a press conference held to brief media about the temporary closure of the Colombo University’s faculty of Arts and Education. Professor Kumara Hirimburegama said that registration of the first year undergraduates of the arts faculty took place today. He said that a group of about fifty people came to Nawinna hostel and more than one hundred came to Thelawala hostel. They are the senior undergraduates of arts and education faculties. He said that they threatened the officials using obscene language and asked them to stop registrations. Professor Hirimburegama said that they demanded to reduce hostel fees but the fees have not been increased for 1 ½ years. He further said that the behavior of the group showed that they are being guided by an organized group. Professor Hirimburegama requested the parents to watch out for their children.
