The daily routine of the tiger terrorists was to destroy lives and quench their thirst for blood for 30 years. The devastation unleashed by these ruthless terrorists was also enormous. If the heroic soldiers did not initiate operations to subdue terrorism, the country would have transformed into a land of the dead.
Another episode of the dark era enshrined with savage attacks of the terrorists, is being unfolded today
On 05th April 1988, the tiger terrorists in a ruthless attack on a group of war heroes in the Kondachchi area took away the lives of three ware heroes, and embarked on their disastrous campaign of shedding blood on 05th April throughout the dark era. These tiger terrorists brutally slaughtered four innocent civilians in the Katkulam area on 05th April posing a grave threat to civilian life. On the same day the tiger terrorists killed 11 brave soldiers in another attack in the Panichchankerni area.
Again on 05th April 1996, the terrorists unleashed a savage attack on the war heroes in the Pulukunawa area in Ampara. As a result the motherland lost the valuable services of 17 war heroes. On 05th April in the year 2000, the terrorists unleashed a massive attack on the Muhamalai Forward Defence Line killing 14 brave soldiers.
In the year 2007 also on a day like today, the terrorists mooted an attack on a group of civilians who were engaged in their day to day activities in the Nidanwila area, taking the lives of four of them. On 05th April 2009, several terrorists attack were unleashed in the Puthukudiyiruppu, Kalmunai and Puthukudiyiruppu West areas. 22 war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the unity of the motherland in these brutal assaults.
Terrorism which was a bane for the country was brought to an end from the Nanthikadal area on 18th May 2009. By then the tiger terrorists had taken away a total of 91 lives on 05 April throughout the fear psychosis period. Among them were 82 valiant soldiers. The other nine were innocent civilians.
The members of the Security Forces who advanced in the humanitarian operations succeeded in uprooting terrorism as a result of the bold and prudent leadership of President Rajapaksa, the Commander in Chief and the proper guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. The members of the Security Forces achieved this triumph making dedications and through supreme sacrifices. All communities are living in freedom and with happiness in the motherland which was freed from this scourge by the valiant soldiers.
However, certain foreign forces as well as local conspirators are chalking out plans to destroy this peace. But the patriotic citizens of this country will never hesitate the peace and freedom that now prevails within the motherland to be destroyed. The patriotic fraternity has proven this not only by word but also by deed.
