The ruthless terrorists were a serious threat to the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the motherland. They plagued the country for 30 years unleashed massive destruction to life and property.
The damage unleashed in the country would have been inestimable, if the valiant soldiers did not enthrone permanent peace in the motherland, making supreme sacrifices.
The terrorists who killed three war heroes in the Jayanthiyaya area on 11th April 1996, thus commenced their murder spree on 11th April throughout the dark era. Two innocent civilians were brutally murdered by the tiger terrorists in a bomb attack unleashed in Kandy on 11th April 1999. The terrorists mooted attack in the Gomarankadawala and Trincomalee areas on 11th April in the years 2000 and 2005 targeting innocent civilians.
These ruthless tiger terrorists unleashed a claymore mine attack in the Thalik area in Jaffna on 11th April 2006. As a result 10 war heroes sacrificed their lives on behalf of the unity of the country. Mullikulam in Mannar was the next target of the terrorists.
They launched an assault on 11th April 2007 and thus took away the lives of nine war heroes further consolidating their ruthlessness. The tiger terrorists launched an assault in the Mannar area on 11th April 2008. On the same day they killed two war heroes in another attack in the Janakapura area.
Terrorism which was fast spreading like a pestilence was subdued by the war heroes at the Nanthikadal Lagoon. That historic day was 18th May 2009. By then these merciless tiger terrorists had taken away a total of 32 lives. Among them were six innocent civilians. The other 26 were brave soldiers.
The members of the Security Forces who advanced in the humanitarian operations succeeded in uprooting terrorism as a result of the bold and prudent leadership of President Rajapaksa, the Commander in Chief and the proper guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
All communities are living in freedom and with happiness in the motherland which had been freed from this scourge by the valiant soldiers.
Extraneous forces as well as local conspirators are drawing up various plans to destroy this peace. But the patriotic citizens of this country will never hesitate the peace and freedom that now prevails within the motherland to be destroyed. The patriotic fraternity has proven this not only by word but also by deed.
