New Houses built in the Wellamulliwaikkal area with the contribution of the Army have been vested in the public.
The vesting of the new houses in the people took place under the patronage of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Wellamulliwaikkal within the Mullaitivu District is a significant location in the humanitarian operations.
The Government embarked on the resettlement of the civilians within their places of origin several years before with the removal of landmines and booby-traps planted by the terrorists. The construction of houses for 20 initial settlers in the Wellamulliwaikkal area, accordingly began with the financial and labour contribution of the Army under the guidance of the head of the 68th Division of Mullaitivu Brig. Tissa Nanayakkara and Col. Ashoka Peiris.
All these houses comprise the basic facilities. Army Commander Lt. Gen. Daya Ratnayake and Commander in Chief of Mullaitivu Major Gen. Jagath Dias were among those present at the vesting of the houses in the public.
