The Army Commander giving instructions to Army officials to give maximum support to the Police in the investigations into the Army soldier arrested with respect to the alleged printing of counterfeit currency notes, has emphasized that there is no room within the Sri Lanka Army for those who breach discipline.

The Kegalle Police with the cooperation of the Army, have arrested a soldier, suspected of his involvement in fake currency note printing.

Commander of the Army, Lt. Gen. Daya Ratnayake on hearing of the arrest, directed senior officers to swiftly conduct inquiries and support the Police to carry on with investigations to find out whether any more of the suspect’s associates, were involved in the fraud. In a special statement he said it is pertinent to recall here that some handfuls of young men, unaware of the dignity and reputation of the Army, went on joining the Army at the height of the recent war and continue to engage in undisciplined acts of this nature in civil society, thus tarnishing the image of the organization. He underlined that stern action would be taken against such errant Army personnel in consistent with his ‘zero tolerance’ policy on wrongdoers.
