Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe has said an international inquiry will not at all be impartial with respect to Sri Lanka. He claimed that they as a country always rejected the Geneva allegations.
Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe visited the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy and engaged in religious observances. He thereafter called on the Malwatte and Asgiriya Mahanayake Theras and secured their blessings.
The Minister who called on the Malwatte Mahanayake the Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala thera apprised him of the situation which has surfaced after the Geneva Sessions. Thereafter he paid a courtesy call on the Asgiriya Mahanayake, the Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera and elaborated to him the challenges facing the country.
Thereafter expressing views to the media, Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said that they will not accept an international probe as international inquiries are not impartial and Sri Lanka cannot place trust in such probes. He informed that Western countries made a strong demand for the evacuation of troops from the North. What the Government said was that this demand could not be met within a short span of four to five years. Independent countries should have the right to take their own decisions.
The Minister said that Sri Lanka the number of troops could not be reduced at a time when the world’s deadliest terrorism which plagued the country for 30 years was vanquished and at a time when the extremist Tamil Diaspora was engaged in a conspiracy to destabilize and debilitate the country. He mentioned that yesterday’s incident clearly proves that the decision taken by Sri Lanka was right.
