Construction of the Manmunai Bridge located in Batticaloa has been completed. Its opening is scheduled for Saturday the 19th.
The Manmunai Bridge built across the Batticaloa Lagoon, has been constructed with assistance from the Japanese Government. The expenditure incurred on the Bridge which is which is 210 metres in length and 9.8 metres wide, was 1870 million rupees.
The Road Development Authority said that the with the construction of the bridge, the transport difficulties hitherto experienced by the people of several areas including Kokkdicholai, Myladdy, Arasaditivu and Mudalikudah will be overcome. Farmers as well as traders will immensely benefit.
Secretary to the Ministry of Highways, Ports and Shipping Ranjith Pemasiri said that the new Bridge will be vested in the people on Saturday the 19th. Deputy Minister M.L.A.M. Hisbullah recently visited the area to inspect the bridge following the completion of its construction.
