President Rajapaksa has said that all people’s representatives should be dedicated to serve the public to the maximum, so that the people can enjoy the victory achieved at the election. The President was addressing the new Ministers of the Western and Southern Provincial Councils.

The President said that various views were expressed on these results by the Government and opposition groups. When he attended a meeting yesterday, referring to those who were analyzing the results, he told the school children that they should think like the Opposition as it thinks that it has won in the poll. They are doing so by citing statistics. Therefore the Opposition has won. It is good and they are thinking positively. Although the Government won the election it remains as the losers. It is better to remain in this manner than being proud of a win. Thus they will be able to get very much closer to the people.

The President called on the elected members to work to the maximum so that the people could enjoy the victory, as finally it is the party and the Executive President who will face the repercussions of the work discharged by the members. He told them not to do injustice to the people.

He reminded them that the preferences they received were cast to the party. If the party was not victorious, he told the members that none of them would be able to take oaths. It is because of the victory achieved by the Freedom Alliance that the elected members had been able to secure positions. If anyone does injustice, it will amount to an injustice caused to the party.

Speaking further the President said that positions cannot be granted to each and every one according to the strategies of the Provincial Councils. The Party is ready to support those who are willing to entrust their portfolios to the seniors after two years.

General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and Minister Maithripala Sirisena, General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance and Minister Susil Premajayantha also expressed their views addressing the oath taking ceremony of the new members of the Western and Southern Provincial Councils.
