Deputy Leader of the LTTE’s Nediyavan group, Kapilan, has been detained and questioned by Sri Lankan authorities after he was deported from Malaysia.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that Nanthagopan alias Kapilan is in the custody of the Terrorism Investigations Division and that comprehensive investigations are in place.
The Police Media Spokesman said that Nanthagopan was arrested by the Terrorism Investigations Department at the Katunayake Airport three weeks ago. The arrested person is reported to have served as an active member of the LTTE outfit. Nanthagopan was arrested on charges of attempting to use a fake passport to travel abroad and was sentenced for 6 months in prison after being found guilty by a Malaysian court.
SSP Ajith Rohana mentioned that after serving his prison sentence Nanthagopan was ordered to be deported to Sri Lanka by the court and was arrested by Sri Lankan police at the Katunayake International Airport three weeks back. It is also reported that his wife and children are residing in the United Kingdom. He is also reported to have made several attempts to fly to the United Kingdom from several countries.
The Police Media Spokesman added that the Terrorism Investigations Division is continuing the inquiry.
