The entire country was under terror when the dark shadows of terrorism
were all over the motherland. The sacrifices made by soldiers led by the Commander in Chief have been written in golden letters in history Displaying the brutality of terrorism the LTTE terrorists stormed the Maha Divulwewa village on 25th May 1986 and killed 20 civilians including innocent children. Three soldiers lost their lives when the terrorists ambushed them on 25th May 1987 at Wakarai in Batticaloe. Displaying the brutality of the LTTE terrorists, they hacked and shot to death 42 civilians at Kallawawa village on 25th May 1995. LTTE terrorists ambushed a group of soldiers and killed two of them on the 25th May 1997 in Vavuniya. Another two soldiers sacrificed their lives to the motherland during an attack by the LTTE terrorists on the same day at Irana-Irruppai in Vavuniya. On 25th May 2000 a LTTE Pistol Gang shot dead two civilians inside their homes in Vavuniya. The terrorism was eradicated from the motherland on 18th May 2009. By that day 89 people including 65 civilians and 24 soldiers had been killed by the terrorists. If the heroic soldiers who advanced under the brave leadership of the Commander in Chief President Mahinda Rajapaksa and under the guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, did not eliminate the brutal killer at the Nandikadal Lagoon in Wellamulli-waikkal the country would have experienced more blood baths. The country has achieved freedom now. The people are enjoying the freedom for the last five years. The people’s President and the present government have taken measures to restore permanent peace in this country. However local and foreign elements are attempting to destroy that peace. The elements who are against the country are making wild allegations against the heroic soldiers. The diary of dark memories contains the eternal heroic biographies of soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country. The memories of the heroic soldiers who rescued the country are eternal despite the utterances made by certain people. We will continue to recall the memories of the heroic soldiers who sacrificed their lives to the country, in the dark memories.
