More programmes will be further implemented to safeguard the rights of children and women in the Northern Province.
The Ministry of Child Development and Women Affairs points out that comprehensive programmes have been launched on behalf of protecting the rights of children and women within the Northern Province. These are in place with the support of the Security Sectors.
A workshop to raise awareness on the programme for members of the Armed Forces and the Police serving in the Northern Province was held at Iranamadu in Kilinochchi.
About 200 members of the Security Forces serving in the Kilinochchi and Jaffna areas participated in the workshop held under the patronage of Minister Tissa Karaliyadda. Discussions at this workshop centred at length on the protection of rights of children and women as well as empowering them. Parliamentarian Murugesu Chandrakumar, Secretary to the Ministry of Child Development and Women’s Affairs Eric Ilayapperuma and Security Forces Commander of Kilinochchi Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe were among those who were present at this workshop.
