SMIDEX 2014 ends on Sunday

The SMIDEX 2014 Small and Medium Scale Industrial Exhibition and Fair will draw to a close tomorrow. It is being held at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Exhibition and Convention Centre in Colombo.


The SMIDEX 2014 Small and Medium Scale Industrial Exhibition and Fair organized for the first time by the Sri Lanka Industrial Development Board opened yesterday under the patronage of Minister Basil Rajapaksa.


The purpose of the event is to showcase the best capabilities and capacities of Sri Lankan SMIEs, to provide a platform for for them to introduce new products and services to both local and international markets. There are 300 stalls at the exhibition which showcases the products of SMIEs.


An opportunity has been provided for the public to purchase products of high quality at reasonable prices.


Deputy Minister Weerakumara Dissanayake who joined in today’s opening ceremony pointed out that the task discharged by Minister Basil Rajapaksa to encourage local producers deserve plaudits.


The need of the era is to produce goods locally. It is possible to provide the required support, guidance, leadership and incentives in this respect. He said that Minister Basil Rajapaksa frequently mediated and provided the necessary encouragement.
