Hulabaloo last night in Negombo house ....

Sword-fight with police firing

Last night, at approximately 8.15 a clique of about 15 persons who barged into a home in Negombo Police area and located at a junction had cut and chopped the residents in that house and when the police arrived there on that occasion, the situation worsened with gun shots being fired .... giving the impression of a great battle.

As a result of a conflict which these residents at the two-pronged unction at 30/11, Vijaya Semarugama had on a previous occasion, a gang of 15 armed with clubs had come on motor bicycles and entered the house in the night and had broken the front windows of the house and had struck 2 women and a man in the house with swords.

During the process, another woman in the house has managed to scoot from the house and run to inform people present at a musical show which had been going on nearby about this incident. After police officers who were on duty at the musical show too had come to know about it, 2 police officers and people in the area had rushed to the scene of this havoc. Even at that time the clique of assailants who had come armed were found inside the house.

When the police officers had taken action to transport the wounded victims to the hospital this armed gang had without any fear attempted to assault the policemen too with clubs and swords which were in their possession. At that moment, a police officer had opened fire twice in the direction of these suspects with his side-weapon. The police Media office reports that in the process 2 suspects had been injured in the shooting.

In the meantime police had taken measures to arrest one of the suspects.

The 2 women and the man who were subjected to the sword attack were admitted to Negombo Hospital together with the 2 suspects who too were injured in this fracas.

Negombo Police are conducting further inquiries in relation to the incident.
