Members of the Security Forces have joined in granting relief to the people impacted as a result of floods in the Kalutara District.
People in many areas in the Kalutara District including Pelawatte, Matugama, Palinda Nuwara, Welipena and Pambarella are seriously hindered due to the extreme weather conditions.
The members of the tri forces are actively engaged in granting relief to these flood victims. More than 500 members of two brigades of the Sri Lanka Army have been deployed for the purpose.
Spokesman for the Media Centre of the Defence Ministry Brig. Ruwan Wanigasooriya said that 10 lifesaving teams of the Navy and two Air Force helicopters are also involved in the operations. The members of the Security Forces are making a vital contribution to rescue persons whose lives are threatened by floods and return transport on roads obstructed by floods to normality.
They are also prepared to extend any other support necessary by Divisional Administrative Officers.
Brig. Ruwan Wanigasuriya mentioned that all activities are being carried out with the coordination of the Disaster Management Centre, the District and Divisional Secretaries of the areas concerned and the Police Department.
In the meantime reports said that thick fog in the Central Hills are impeding the movement of vehicles. The Hatton Police have appealed to drivers to switch on their head lights on roads where the vehicles coming from the front cannot be seen.
Thick fog is being witnessed from Hatton to Ginigathena along the Hatton-Colomob main road and from Hatton to Nuwara Eliya along the Hatton Nuwara Eliya main road.
