The annual Ramazan fasting period commences
with the sighting of the new moon. The Colombo Grand Mosque announced that the new moon was sighted last night in Sri Lanka. Accordingly Muslims began the fasting month from this morning. They will end the fasting period with the sighting of the new moon next month called, Shawwaal which follows the Ramazan period, according to the Islam calendar.
