Five historic stone statues have been recovered
from the Mahaweli River. The Hasalaka Police have found five historic statues and a part of a foot of a statue under water near the Randenigala, Minipe Yoda Ela Anicut. The statues had been found during a search operation conducted by the Hasalaka Police O.I.C. Ruwan Kumarasekera and other officers, following a tip off received from a villager. It is believed that the statues had been hidden. Police said that the statues would be handed over to the Archeological Department for further investigations.
