Revelation that Warapitiya girl ... raped before murdered

A number of fresh pieces of evidence have been unravelled in investigations carried out so far in connection with the murder of the undergraduate of Warapitiya Walauwwa in Ukuwela,Matale which created a great sensation last May. Though it was earlier said that Miss Lalani Nadeesha Warapitiya who died in the incident had not been raped before that, it was revealed at the post-mortem that she had been raped. It was learned that minute traces of spermatozoa of somebody was found inside her body as evidence in this respect. On permission obtained, the spermatozoa so discovered had been sent to Ginter Institute in Borella for DNA investigations, by now.

Whatever it is, it was found from latest police inquiries that somebody had been sleeping on the bed of the deceased girl on the night when this incident took place and he had covered her body in the midnight and had later left the place. According to evidence discovered so far, it has been found that she had been taken outdoors and after raping her had later murdered her, finally dumping her body in the room and the dead body had once again been taken out and placed close to a stream closeby.

The 24 year old undergraduate of Warapitiya Walauwwa had been mysteriously killed towards the final proceedings of the wedding celebrations on the night of the home-coming held in the house.

While her nude dead body was found in a nearby field, it was reported that she was raped and murdered with a blow being dealt on her head with a blunt instrument after which the blood-stained cloth had been left closeby having been washed and rinsed as well, it was understood.

Though clues of a blood-stained fingerprint on the beam of the house and two blood-stained footmarks were detected on the floor have been used in police scientific investigations,no other clues were found.

A suspicion emerged about this murder that had been committed pertaining to a property and financial issue because with the demise of the dead girl's father she had inherited about 60 acres and other properties, according to his last will. This information was conveyed by her neighbours.

The police are presently conducting investigations about suspicious individuals who were there in the house on the night of the murder. The police say that so far the evidence uncovered in respect of the assailant-murderer is only the traces of spermatozoa found from him.
